We are looking for a Senior Manufacturing Technician. As a Manufacturing Technician, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world's best quantum computers to solve the world's most complex problems.

In this role, you will execute the assembly and testing of high-precision devices and free-space optical systems. You will be responsible for the alignment of complex assemblies and must apply manufacturing best practices to meet production requirements. Working closely with the engineering team, you will follow detailed work instructions to ensure all components meet the technical specifications required for our quantum computers.

Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Manufacturing and Product Engineers to follow detailed work instructions to assemble opto-mechanical subassemblies and components with a safety and quality mindset, and a high-level attention to detail.
  • Assemble, inspect, and test opto-mechanical and electronic assemblies.
  • Support the handling, storage, and packaging of large assemblies and components.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering & Test (E&T) teams to conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Present findings and suggestions to technical teams, including documenting assembly best practices and redlining assembly documentation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.

You'd be a good fit with:

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 2-year technical degree combined with 3+ years of hands-on experience in a fast-paced, high-tech electronics, optomechanical, or manufacturing environment (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience in electronics and optics assembly, including the ability to follow detailed work instructions and provide clear, constructive feedback.
  • Comfortable working in both engineering/development lab settings and structured manufacturing environments.
  • Detail-oriented individual with excellent fine motor skills and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Experience using hand tools and performing minor lab repairs. Must be able to perform moderate, sometimes repetitious, physical work, including bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, and lifting up to 40 pounds.
  • Proven ability to read, understand, and adhere to assembly drawings, CAD drawings, technical specifications, and operating procedures.
  • Experience with data collection and analysis. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency, particularly with Google Sheets and MS Office.

You'd be a great fit with:

  • Demonstrated hands-on experience in an opto-mechanical production environment.
  • Proficiency in working with complex optical systems, including free-space optics, fiber optics, and lasers.
  • Skilled in the alignment of lenses, mirrors, prisms, and other optical/opto-mechanical components on an optical breadboard.
  • Experience operating in a research and development (R&D) setting and/or a low-volume, high-mix production environment.
  • Familiarity with enterprise resource planning (ERP), product lifecycle management (PLM), and manufacturing execution systems (MES).
