The IP Legal team is looking for an Intellectual Property (IP) Paralegal to assist with protecting and leveraging the company’s IP. The IP Paralegal will primarily be responsible for docketing, tracking, and monitoring patent portfolio activities, data entry into respective patent and trademark tracking and docketing software systems, assisting with preparation and completion of IP documents and forms, tracking patent procedural requirements, timelines, and bar dates, and assisting in monitoring IP budget. This position will report to the Patent Director and will collaborate closely with technologists and legal counsel.
Responsibilities
- Supporting IP Counsels on IP docketing, management, licensing and transactional matters
- Serving as a primary point of contact for IP and portfolio management tools (e.g., IP registration, docketing, licensing, and reporting).
- Managing maintenance fee/annuities
- Assisting IP counsel with managing outside counsel handled patent/trademark filings
- Supporting IP counsel on transactional matters, including IP licensing administration and management
- Administering internal IP related databases and using them to generate, schedule, and automate reports for metrics, budgets, and dashboards
- Collaborating with business partners to provide requested information regarding matters in IP portfolio
- Working on trademark renewals and use declarations, specimen collection
- Performing preliminary trademark searches using US, EP, and Int’l databases
- Collaborating with and providing general support for patent and trademark activities to assigned IP counsel
- Setting up matters in IP management software and billing systems
- Supporting recurring metrics and reporting
- Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures and training materials for users of electronic IP management tools
You’d be a good fit:
- At least 7+ years of relevant experience (corporate legal department preferred)
- Expertise in Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel), SharePoint (or equivalent), and document review platforms
- Expertise in IP docketing policies and procedures, IP management software, and IP licensing practices
- Experience using complex electronic databases, such as electronic docketing systems (e.g., Foundation IP or equivalent)
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to express complex ideas clearly to various audiences across a large organization
- Familiarity with USPTO procedures
- Ability to execute tasks and projects independently
- Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective, collaborative relationships with others

The approximate base salary range for this position is $111,692 - $145,649. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
