The Senior Director, Global Head of Internal Communications sets and leads IonQ’s internal communications strategy and employee engagement across the company and supports several senior executives with numerous types of communications, including but not limited to organizational announcements, town hall remarks, HR communications, videos and company news. Reporting directly to the VP, Global Marketing and Communications, the LEVEL is a member of the Global Marketing and Communications leadership team. S/He will possess a laser-like focus on increasing employee engagement, setting editorial direction and amplifying the company’s strategic narrative among IonQ’s employees (including all recently acquired company employees) in all geographies while serving IonQ’s senior-most leaders.

The successful candidate will be a seasoned practitioner who has worked in a fast-moving, global capacity and with executives across diverse business areas – driving consistency and underscoring the benefits of the employee value proposition. The ideal candidate will drive activities across the full spectrum of channels and platforms, new and yet-to-be developed, measuring their effectiveness, while exploring new approaches and technology platforms and continuous enhancements, including mobile capabilities.

They will be responsible for producing bold, creative, strategic campaigns and deliverables with engaging content on the company’s priorities and milestones, what makes IonQ a great place for the highest performing talent, our company’s differentiation in being the leading full-stack quantum platform, and how we deliver a competitive advantage to our customers and partners. The ideal candidate must have impeccable writing and editing skills and proven experience building technology capabilities, such as Poppulo.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and ensure quality and consistency of all internal employee events, programs, email messages, video scripts, etc., involving the Chairman & CEO, CFO & COO, CLO, CHRO, EVP Technology & Engineers and other senior executives – including packaging speaking opportunities in an easily digestible and visual way that drives awareness and more collaboration among employees
  • Work with the Executive Office team and video production to produce quarterly global town halls “All Hands” meetings, including executive support, e.g., scripting and Q&A, slide production, speech/presentation coaching and invitation and viewing room management
  • Gain an understanding of the various personas of our employee base to create compelling channels, content, messaging, packaging and repurposing of news and information tailored for these audiences – from individuals in the labs, Go-to-Market/Sales/Business Development, Compute/Tech/Ops, Field Engineering, businesses, across all regions, newly acquired employees, corporate functions, etc.
  • Lead the development and execution of IonQ’s internal engagement plan aligned with the company’s narrative to effectively articulate its strategy and successes
  • Build and train teams on IonQ’s Internal Communications policies and procedures, enhancing its strategy and roadmap globally to: support the company’s rapid evolution; address employees’ preferences for receiving and acting on communications deliverables; and promote cross-fertilization of comms and best practices across regions, functions and businesses
  • Lead and professionally develop a global internal communications team of individuals embedded across the various business units, geographies, and functional areas
  • Maintain internal communications stylebook and guidelines for all internal communicators and build awareness among all MarComms, Investor Relations, and Product Marketing/Events teammates
  • Generate ideas and enhancements to stimulate employee experiences including programs, events, and interactions that demonstrate the company’s ambitions and growth
  • Continue to evolve social/intranet platforms, through both improved storytelling/editorial content - working in tandem with technology to drive greater functionality, AI tools integration. On a parallel path, build a new intranet solution
  • Proactively solicit input for deepening employee engagement across the company collaborating closely with integration and transformation teams
  • Work directly with senior leaders to produce a wide variety of content in multiple forms to reinforce and share IonQ’s culture across the organization and its acquired companies
  • Manage and provide direction for the internal email platform used for large-scale, all-employee messages, including CEO memos, key organization announcements, acquisitions, key milestones/achievements, etc.
  • Measure, track and continuously improve employee engagement metrics

You’d be a good fit with:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 15+ years of corporate communications, PR agency, and/or journalism experience
  • Exceptional writing and editing abilities, including spelling and grammar skills, with a meticulous eye for detail and accuracy
  • Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to present proposals and strategies to top-level leaders as well as create engaging materials for all levels of the organization; ability to build strong relationships and trust with senior stakeholders, both within the broader Corporate Affairs function, and the wider businesses and functional areas (or teams); a proven “influencer”
  • Innovative approach to content types – thinking beyond the written word to consider visual, video, audio, interactive, in-person experiences and other channels and content delivery approaches
  • Creative, results-oriented problem solver with ability to operate across time zones in a fast-paced environment with resilience, intellectual curiosity, and adaptability
  • Analytical thinking and ability to integrate input from multiple stakeholders while working on deadlines
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex, at times esoteric technical and quantum computing-related materials, financial details and to craft creative, persuasive content for various global audiences
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with aptitude for managing simultaneous projects in a deadline-driven work environment
  • Diplomacy and tact for managing matrixed relationships
  • Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills; advanced experience with internal workflow tools, employee survey solutions, and content production apps are a plus

You’d be a great fit with:

  • MBA
  • Technology background. (ideally deep tech), financial services, data analytics, and/or cloud-based solutions with a heavy emphasis (or focus) on late-stage startups expanding across numerous global environments working across multiple time zones
  • M&A experience. e.g., announcing and integrating employee bases from new acquisitions
  • Deep knowledge of industry-leading technologies, strategies, and methodologies, including:
    • Effective storytelling and content development and management
    • Content platform management and optimizing search
    • Employee engagement and change communications
    • Analytics and measurement
  • Experience with communications tools and platforms (e.g., Poppulo)
  • Experience working hand-in-hand with outside consultants, writers and other vendors; contract negotiation skills

Location: This role can work onsite or hybrid from our College Park, MD. We are open to a fully remote option for the right candidate.

The approximate base salary range for this position is $169,869 - $221,514. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.

Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
