We are looking for a hands-on Global Environmental, Health and Safety Manager (GM-EHS). As a GM-EHS, you’ll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build the world’s best quantum computers to solve the world’s most complex problems.
In this role, you will provide corporate leadership and management of EHS programs across all IonQ sites. The GM-EHS will be responsible to design, adapt, implement, and maintain the company’s EHS management systems while creating a robust Safety Culture. The GM-EHS will also be responsible to understand the EHS compliance requirements in the locations where IonQ operates, build and manage complementary EHS programs, and advise local teams on specific standards and reporting. Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement health and safety plans, protocols, and procedures to ensure compliance with legal requirements.
- Conduct regular safety audits and inspections to identify hazards and recommend corrective actions.
- Collaborate with management to develop emergency response plans and conduct regular drills.
- Monitor workplace environments, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Ensure that incidents are investigated, reported, recorded, and translated into system or behavioral improvements.
- Ensure that all employees are adequately trained in EHS procedures, standards and requirements to complete work safely.
- Perform Job Safety Analysis and hazard reviews for equipment and processes.
- Facilitate safety meetings and communicate expectations with a focus on continual improvement of the EHS management system and address employee concerns.
- Lead EHS initiatives, drive continuous improvement projects, and track EHS KPIs and statistics.
- Travel to IonQ offices as required.
You’d be a good fit with:
- Minimum of 5+ years of experience in EHS management.
- Experience in high-technology production environments, including hardware manufacturing, semiconductor manufacturing and research and development.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Certified Safety Professional or similar certification.
- Experience in accident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Experience with ISO standards, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.

- Strong analytical and research skills and a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
- Demonstrate experience working in a young organization engaged in hazardous operations where development of EHS systems from an immature state was required, regardless of industry.
- Sound knowledge and ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations and legislation, such as, workers compensation, occupational health, emergency response, and environmental protection.
- Demonstrate understanding of EHS issues and risks and have extensive knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and practices.
Location: This role is based onsite in Bothell, WA or College Park, MD and will travel to other IonQ sites
Travel: Domestic travel - up to 50%, International travel - occasionally

The approximate base salary range for this position is $117,113 - $147,063. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, and equity.
Compensation will vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Posted base salary figures are subject to change as new market data becomes available. Beyond base salary, total compensation includes a variable bonus and equity component and a range of benefit options found on our career site at ionq.co/jobs. IonQ's HQ is located in College Park, Maryland, just outside of Washington DC. We are actively building out our recently opened manufacturing and production facility in Bothell, WA (near Seattle). Depending on the position, you may be required to be near one of our offices in College Park, Seattle, Toronto, Canada, and Basel, Switzerland.
