Job Description

What’s the role?

As an analyst in Risk & Fraud, you will be instrumental in enabling a data-driven strategy to detect and reduce risk on Etsy. This role will be responsible for conducting analyses and providing insights on the health of the Risk & Fraud metrics. You will leverage your data wrangling and visualization skills to partner with Product and Ops teams and make our metrics accessible, understandable and reliable.

What’s this team like at Etsy?

  • Analysts at Etsy use rigorous methods to generate insights that inform product, engineering, and business decisions across the company. We collaborate with Product and Ops teams in: actively uncovering opportunity areas, crafting experiments to test hypotheses, analyzing the impact of our efforts, and highlighting takeaways
  • Learning new skills and techniques is not only a requirement but a perk of the job! You don't need to have prior fraud experience but strong data-thinking and a willingness to learn quickly will get you far in this role.

What does the day-to-day look like?

  • Work closely and collaboratively with leaders in Risk & Fraud and Analytics teams to understand how risk manifests on Etsy.
  • Present options for how to capture our risk health and customer experience in metrics and communicate trends out to technical/non-technical audiences.
  • Understand stakeholder requirements for risk monitoring and create/manage/deprecate analyses and dashboards as per these requirements.
  • Posit hypotheses and test scenarios pertaining to customer experience with our fraud enforcement.
  • Of course, this is just a sample of the kinds of work this role will require! You should assume that your role will encompass other tasks, too, and that your job duties and responsibilities may change from time to time at Etsy's discretion, or otherwise applicable with local law.

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are

  • 1-5 years experience as a data scientist or data analyst during which you extracted insights from large datasets. Prior work in a risk and fraud environment is not required but is an advantage!
  • Mastery of SQL and proficiency in Looker is required. Experience with Python is a plus.
  • You are an expert in sophisticated analyses and have experience with managing business health metrics. Experience with statistical methods and experimentation is a plus.
  • You are adept at communicating your insights, verbally, visually, and in writing to peers and leaders at all technical comprehension levels. You are able to distill complex findings into impactful and meaningful takeaways that can drive strategy.
