Overview

Are you ready to play a crucial role in shaping the future of aviation? Joby is seeking a Technical Trainer to champion and elevate our aircraft manufacturing training programs. As a driving force behind standardizing, documenting, and leading training activities, you will be at the forefront of ensuring our teams are equipped with the skills and knowledge to build the future of air transportation.

Prepare Manufacturing Technicians and Quality Inspectors for On-the-job training (OJT) through area-specific hands-on knowledge, skills, and continuous improvement training.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver new-hire onboarding training (e.g., core knowledge training, application/systems training, facility and safety orientation, etc.)
  • Deliver general skills training - Manufacturing Technician (e.g., assembling aircraft parts, components, wiring harnesses, avionics, interiors, landing gear, and integrated systems into flight-ready aircraft)
  • Deliver general skills training - Quality Inspector (e.g., dimensional inspection, visual inspection, PCBA/CCA Receiving inspection, IPC620 and IPC610 solder training, etc. Manufacturing -.)
  • Deliver continuous improvement applied training (e.g., 4S, standard work, built-in-quality, etc.)
  • Coordinate with external vendors to support technical training needs
  • Ensure that technical training content, processes, and procedures are in compliance with published training standards
  • Develop technical training curricula based on existing work instructions, SOPs, and training content
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including subject matter experts, engineers, and production leaders, to incorporate practical, hands-on experiences into technical training programs.
  • Coordinate and manage costs, and equipment for technician and quality inspector training

Required

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in aviation, aerospace, automotive, or R&D mechanical systems, including a solid general knowledge of vehicle assembly, maintenance, and repair
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field or equivalent practical experience
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and work instructions
  • Familiarity with standard aircraft hardware, fasteners, torque values, and safety-wiring techniques
  • Experience working within robust quality assurance processes, with a demonstrated ability to identify high-quality work and pre-inspect assembly steps
  • Proven ability to work independently and multi-task efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of aircraft systems, standard hardware, tools, and test equipment
  • Familiarity with mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies

Desired

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Materials Science, Training, Instructional Design, or a related field
  • Proficiency in powertrain and electronics process inspections with the ability to define technical scopes, sequences, and critical tool requirements for complex tasks
  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing, specifically drafting step-by-step procedural documentation
  • Experience capturing and developing visual training aids, such as instructional photography and video, to supplement technical documentation
  • Experience designing, implementing, enhancing, and delivering standardized training systems within a manufacturing, production, or similar environment
  • Familiarity with learning management systems (LMS) and/or other training software
  • Familiarity with and ability to identify all key components needed for complete mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies
  • Understanding of the different requirements for producing both flight-worthy production parts and research & development parts, respectively
  • Experience in aerospace, composites, or electronics manufacturing

Additional Information

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $93,000/yr - $161,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
