Overview

The Flight Test Operations Coordinator is responsible for organizing, scheduling, and supporting the operational aspects of flight test activities. This role ensures that aircraft, personnel, facilities, and documentation are properly prepared and aligned to support safe and efficient flight test execution. The coordinator acts as the operational hub between flight test engineers, pilots, maintenance teams, instrumentation, safety, and program management.

Responsibilities

Operations Planning & Coordination

  • Develop and inform the flight test operations schedule, ensuring resource availability and alignment with program timelines.
  • Coordinate aircraft readiness, maintenance actions, and configuration changes required for testing.
  • Manage daily operational activities, including crew assignments, facility usage, and ground support needs.

Flight Line & Test Execution Support

  • Oversee flight line coordination, ensuring required personnel, equipment, and documentation are available prior to test events.
  • Ensure crew is current mission is communicated test cards, risk assessments, aircraft documentation, and ground support equipment are prepared and distributed.
  • Coordinate live demo events, including aircraft moves, fueling, preflight inspections, and telemetry/communications setup.
  • Track real-time mission status and support in resolving operational issues during test execution.

Safety & Compliance

  • Support Safety Management System (SMS) processes, including hazard tracking, risk assessments, and safety reviews.
  • Ensure all test activities adhere to company flight operations policies and regulatory standards.
  • Maintain currency of operational checklists, test readiness documentation, and emergency response procedures.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of flight test activity, aircraft configuration, discrepancies, and test results summaries.
  • Prepare and distribute flight schedules, operations reports, and status updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Assist with configuration control of operational documents and ensure documentation is archived and accessible.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Serve as the communication link between engineering, maintenance, pilots, safety teams, and program leadership.
  • Coordinate logistics for equipment, instrumentation, and parts needed for upcoming tests.
  • Identify operational bottlenecks and help implement process improvements to enhance test efficiency.

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation, Aerospace, Engineering Operations, or related field (or equivalent relevant experience).
  • Experience in flight operations, aircraft maintenance coordination, flight test support, or aviation project management.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and multi-tasking skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, safety-critical environment.
  • Basic understanding of aircraft systems, flight operations, and technical documentation.

Desired

  • Experience within an experimental, certification, or military flight test environment.
  • Familiarity with FAA/EASA regulatory requirements and flight test processes (test cards, risk reviews, telemetry, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SMS principles and operational risk management tools.
  • Proficiency with flight operations or project management systems.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $113,900 - $151,900/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
