About the role

We are seeking a Lab Automation Engineer to join our team and build a state-of-the-art high-throughput protein lab. The ideal candidate will have experience in working at fast-paced startups in biotech, and a strong track record of initiating and leading lab automation efforts. This role is critical to advancing our high-throughput infrastructure and ensure the seamless integration between our AI- and science teams.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate ability to independently plan, set-up, and continuously optimize the lab automation systems for robotic platforms, liquid handling systems, and other automation technologies.

• Design, develop, and implement automated workflows and systems to streamline laboratory operations.

• Procure instruments and consumables in accordance with company timeline and goals

• Collaborate with both our science and ML teams to identify and address automation and data needs and challenges.

• Develop and maintain robust data collection protocols to support machine learning model training.

• Contribute to the development and validation of new assays and protocols. Monitor and optimize the data quality.

• Provide training and support to team members on the use of automated systems and prepare technical documentation.

• Stay current on the latest technologies and assess scientific and technical needs and risks.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD degree in Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Robotics, CS or a related technical field.

• Must have previous experience with liquid handlers, automated plate washers, dispensers, or other automated lab systems.

• Demonstrated industry experience in setting up lab automation capabilities and high-throughput capabilities from zero to one.

• Demonstrated up-to-date knowledge on the latest lab automation technologies.

• Solid foundations of biochemistry, molecular biology, and cellular biology.

• Creative problem-solver who loves undertaking hard technical challenges.

• Experience with data gathering, preprocessing, and management for machine learning applications.

• Experience in Python, R, Bash/Shell, SQL or similar is a plus.

• Experience with cloud-based infrastructure (GCP) and LIMS integration is a plus.
