The Crown Is Yours

DraftKings is growing quickly and we’re looking for a Lead Data Engineer to help lead a data team centered around the mission of providing a best-in-class experience for our products and customers. This team is primarily focused on data to support our Product teams (Daily Fantasy Sports, Sportsbook, and Casino) and modeling this data to support business stakeholders around the Products. This position focuses on supporting our Sportsbook vertical and requires strong technical skills and a bias toward collaboration. You will be working across teams, informing business decisions, and helping to expand our software platform.

What you’ll do as a Lead Data Engineer

  • Take ownership of building data solutions to provide actionable insights into key business metrics

  • Collaborate and serve as a technical lead of your data team (‘squad’) to design scalable processes that support data transformation and structures, metadata, dependency, and workload management

  • Work with product owners, product managers, and software engineers; lead your squad to implement high-quality, production-grade data pipelines and ETL processes

  • Build scalable real-time and near-real-time solutions that respond to unpredictable changes in data volumes linked to live events

  • Be flexible and able to rapidly adapt. We roll out products very quickly and are looking for a team that can pivot at a moment's notice

  • Work with your squad to design, build, and deliver innovative applications with urgency and speed

  • Bring operational excellence with a focus on performance analysis, optimization, and tuning

What You'll Bring

  • A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience working in data engineering, analytics engineering, and/or other data-related roles.

  • Multiple years of proven experience leading a data engineering team

  • Advanced experience working with cloud data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake (preferred), BigQuery, and Redshift. Experience with other database technologies (MySQL, SQL Server, etc)

  • Advanced experience building and maintaining data models, datasets, and data products that meet the changing needs of data consumers

  • Experience working with other data-related technologies: Airflow, Kafka, AWS (S3, DMS, EC2). Kafka experience is a big plus.

  • Experience building and maintaining data quality monitoring solutions using tools such as DataDog, PagerDuty, and MonteCarlo

  • Experience working with remote and distributed teams

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with Product stakeholders and technical teams is required

  • Experience working in a SOX-controlled environment

  • Desire to help build a world-class data platform using the latest technologies, tools, and processes in the rapidly changing data landscape

  • Experience in the Sportsbook industry is a plus
