Job Description

  • The Tennessee Department of Health's Division of Family Health and Wellness (FHW) is seeking a highly motivated, qualified individual to fill a Public Health Program Director 1 contract position.
  • The Public Health Program Director 1 position is housed within the Tobacco Use Prevention & Control Program.
  • This contract position will work closely with program and evaluation staff to implement evidence-based strategies designed to address the tobacco use and prevention among youth and young adults.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement evidence-based programs/initiatives to address tobacco prevention among youth and young adults.
  • Assist and support schools with the implementation of tobacco prevention and cessation initiatives.
  • Work with the tobacco team to plan and implement youth engagement trainings for tobacco prevention.
  • Participate in regular trainings, workshops, conferences, and meetings related to tobacco prevention and control and the FHW division.
  • Develop and maintain cooperative, collaborative, working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to achieve program goals and objectives.
  • Updates and uses relevant knowledge to support the implementation of health education interventions and programs for the community.
  • Identifies the educational needs of others, supports program staff in the development of educational training programs or classes, and teaches and instructs others.
  • Assists with the design and delivery of relevant training programs for health department employees, teachers, and other professionals
  • Prepare and distribute program materials to internal and external stakeholders that conduct tobacco prevention programs.

Education And Experience

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in health education, biology, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in public health, education, or related field
  • Able to complete and prioritize tasks while working remotely.
  • This hybrid position has in-person attendance expected for the first day of employment for laptop deployment and onboarding in Nashville, TN.
  • Contract for this position is expected to be renewed annually pending program funding. Funding is anticipated to continue at least through June 2030.
  • Candidates must be a resident of TN.
  • In-person attendance for quarterly meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Travel to Nashville office will not be reimbursed, however travel for site visits outside of the Nashville metro area will be reimbursed per state policy.
  • Typical working hours Monday - Friday 8AM CST to 4:30 PM CST, 37.5 hours per week. Not eligible for overtime.
